Look Out - I have a LURKER!

It turns out that my husband really does occassionally read my blog here, though he never leaves a comment. What's up with that? When he first told me that he had read my blog the other day, I was a little concerned. After all, I have said some less than flattering things about his mother, and at first, I felt bad. Here's the reality though, this is MY blog. I write it with the assumption that perhaps no one will read it. Why do I write it then?

I write to process. I write for me, because that's what people who write do. I write because I have to. I write to help me clear the cobwebbs from my brain. I write to be honest with myself and the way that I think and perceive the world. If I can't share my honest feelings here, to myself and any who may be reading, then where can I be honest?

I told him that if I were him, I wouldn't make a habit of reading, because he may not always like what he hears. That's life. I have good days, and bad days. I feel lucky that my good days far outnumber the bad. However, on those days, I need this outlet most of all. If I'm not being honest, then this all really is a pointless endevour. So I struggle on, regardless of who is reading and what they may think about it.

I think I'm probably lucky that my husband can't browse the internet at work ;) He knows I have a blog, and I occasionally tell him what I wrote about that day, but I think he looks at it as one of my weird, girl hobbies.

I think your explanation of it being a place for you to process is a good one, and hopefully if your husband ever asks you about something you've written here, you can remind him of that!

Oh my gosh, I am SO there with you! The whole reason I started my blog outside Cafemom/myspace/facebook was so that I COULD be honest and open and myself! I had done that for a while on CM, and, as my SIL is also there, she'd read what I'd posted and "reported" it to my MIL...evidently it gave them cause to worry about my mothering abilities and habits. That ended my open blogging htere, REAL quick, let me tell you!

But, like you, I often need to write to get things out of my head, to look at them from another perspective, to be able to sort them out.

I outright ASK hubby to read my blog and he just says, "I don't do blogs." I've written some nice stuff about him, too - so phooey on him! ;)

I think he thinks of my blog as a "weird, girl hobby" too (thanks for voicing that, ann m.!). He teases me and my friend Stacey because we do blog constantly. But it does help me process and it lets friends and family that I don't see as often as I like keep up with us.

You asked me a few questions on my blog, so I figured I'd answer them here if that's OK--we're not at a Navy base here (weird, I know. It's one of those joint-service command things.) My husband works with communications signals, which sounds way more exciting than it actually is. We're technically shore command but his office sends him out to submarines when they need somebody in his field.

Feel free to blogroll me and I'll add a link to you, too, if that's OK! (you can also delete this comment if you like)...

Me too... my hubby mentioned in passing one day what a cute pic of Ava i put on my 'little site' he calls it... my head swerved around .. whaaaaa???? So i find myself a little more careful about what i saw about his actions. Because the written word has no inflections or facial expressions so things can be taken a bit wrong.

I love your explanation of why you blog... so true

You write for the same reasons all serious writers do. You did all you could do when you told him not to make a habit of it. I had to giggle at Ann M's comments. Funny stuff. I have the one question- will the mother in law read it?

Hubby-lurkers are hilarious! That's how my Big D ended up starting his own blog. He finally admitted to reading mine every couple of days and i was like, "oh snap!" LOL He kept saying "Post more nice things about me, I like those." Um, yeah, but I refuse to stop posting when he irritates me. If he doens't like it, then don't read it! LOL
